THE JADE EMPEROR, OR CAO DAI TIEN ONG DAI BO TAT MA HA TAT, TEACHING THE WAY IN THE SOUTH
I forewarn you so that you may not later claim that My authority is insufficient to restrain all My disciples…
You must understand: All things contain both truth and deception. Without truth, how would you recognize deception? And without deception, how would you distinguish truth?… (Laughter)…
I tell you this so you understand: To be worthy of being My disciple is to endure hardship. The more I cherish you, the more I will test you. Only the worthy will be welcomed into the White Jade Palace; those who fall will be greeted by the gates of Hell. Oh, the complexities of love and aversion!
Therefore, I do not withhold guidance out of aversion, nor do I refrain from sending demons to tempt you out of affection. I forewarn you so that you may protect yourselves. Surrounding you, both near and far, I have released a pack of wolves and tigers to mingle amongst you. I constantly urge them to seize any opportunity to tear you apart, but beforehand, I have given you a suit of armor that they cannot see: your virtue.
Therefore, strive to maintain this armor until the day you reunite with Me.
Listen and strive to obey.
